This is determined by the weight and / or height of the door and the following guidelines should be observed.
Assessing the weight of a door
Timber
Typical softwood doors of framed, ledged and braced construction, filled with 16mm tongued, grooved and vent-jointed match board weigh approximately.
50mm nominal thickness = 22 Kg/sqm
64mm nominal thickness = 25 Kg/sqm
76mm nominal thickness = 29 Kg/sqm
Metal
Due to large variety, weight should be determined by exact calculation.
Assessing the size of a door
Jambs should be overlapped by 50mm to 76mm
Lintels should be overlapped by 25mm to 40mm
Ground Clearance should be 10mm
Passing doors should overlap by 64mm
Track Capacity = Per leaf 115Kg
